Court calls Tihar Jail superintendent on Bhatkal plea

New Delhi, May 29 (IANS) A court here Thursday asked Tihar Jail superintendent to appear before it June 7 while hearing a plea moved by Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal complaining about insufficient facilities provided to him and his co-accused in the prison.

Bhatkal and his associate Assadullah Akhtar told the National Investigation Agency (NIA) special judge that they were not being provided even the basic amenities in the high security prison.

The duo were presented in the court during an in-chamber hearing in a case filed by the NIA.

The court said: "The accused are complaining about insufficient facilities provided to them in the jail. Superintendent Central Jail Tihar is directed to appear in person on the next date of hearing i.e. June 7 for assisting the court."

The court directed the jail authorities to provide necessary medical facilities to the accused according to rules.

Bhatkal and Akhtar with other IM operatives have been charge sheeted for their role in the conspiracy and commission of major terror attacks in various parts of the country.
