Bangalore, May 29 (IANS) Karnataka Thursday invited the South American nation of Peru to participate in the Global Investors' Meet (GIM 2015) the state will hold here in January-February next year.

"We invite you to participate as partner country in the GIM event and sign agreements with us to harness the state's potential in the field of investments, trade and business," Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told visiting Peruvian ambassador to India Javier Paulinich here.

Noting that India and Peru have bilateral agreements in trade, technology, culture, tourism and defence cooperation, Siddaramaiah said both the countries should enhance the bilateral ties in diverse areas of mutual interest.

"Karnataka has emerged as the most favoured investment destination in light of its robust growth in various industrial sectors and its state capital (Bangalore) has international presence as the IT hub of India," he said when Paulinich called on him at his home office here.

Though minerals and hydrocarbons were among the major sectors of the Peruvian economy, Siddaramaiah told the envoy that the state government has pro-active policies in diverse sectors like semi-conductors, electronic hardware, renewable energy and infrastructure for overseas investments.

"As these policies are aimed at creating an eco-system for robust industrial development, we look forward to greater participation by Peruvian firms in the areas of their interest for optimal utilisation of our natural resources and human capital," he said.

"We are keen to strengthen our relationship with Peru in the field of investments, trade, information technology, biotechnology and mining," Siddaramaiah said.

Karnataka is setting up industrial clusters, National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZ) and public-private partnership projects to provide an impetus for industrial development across the state.

Accepting the chief minister's invitation, Paulinich said his country would explore the prospects of participating in the global investors meet and strengthening the economic ties with India through Karnataka.
