College choice option removed from DU application form

New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) Delhi University (DU) has decided to remove the college selection option from its online and offline admission forms, a varsity official said Wednesday.

"There have been certain complaints in the past where student getting very high percentage have suffered because they chose just two-three colleges and once cut-offs were out, they failed to get admissions. To avoid such problem, the college selection option decision has been reconsidered," J.M. Khurana, Delhi university's dean of students' welfare, told IANS.

The choice of selecting a college in the Optical Mark Registration form was removed last year after the varsity introduced a four year undergraduate programme.

However, when the admission guidelines were introduced earlier this month, DU said students would be able to choose their colleges too.

There are 77 colleges under the varsity.

"We have just simplified the process and made it easier for students so they do not face problem," Malay Neerav, joint dean of students' welfare and media coordinator at DU, said.

The process of admission to DU undergraduate programme begins June 2.
