Canada,Science/Tech, Mon, 05 May 2014 IANS

Toronto, May 5 (IANS) How about reading news on a smart phone that can be folded like a map with a flexible, portable and interactive display technology!

You are not asking for too much as researchers at Queen's University in Canada have turned your dream into a reality - in 'PaperFold' mobile device.

Named "multi-display shape-changing smartphone", the 'PaperFold' mobile device uses three flexible electrophoretic (e-ink) display sheets that users can fold into various configurations.

"It allows for mobile tasks that require large screen real estate or keyboards on demand, while retaining an ultra-compact, ultra-thin and lightweight form factor," explained Roel Vertegaal, director of Human Media Lab at Queen's University.

When you need more digital inputs, you can pull out the additional screens like a foldout map.

PaperFold cal automatically adjusts the function of its three detachable viewports to give you a 3D view of any street or building.

"Fold two screens into a mini-laptop shape, for instance, and the bottom portion turns into a touchscreen keyboard," Vertegaal was quoted as saying in media reports.
