Tamil Nadu,Elections 2014,Politics, Sat, 19 Apr 2014 IANS

Chennai, April 19 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa Saturday said preliminary works for setting up of two desalination water projects to meet the future water demands of the Tamil Nadu capital have started.

Addressing a couple of election rallies here, Jayalalithaa said: "Considering the growing population in Chennai, it has been decided to set up a Rs.1,000 crore 150 million litre per day desalination water project at Nemmeli and work on that has commenced."

She said a project report for another 400 million litre per day desalination project near here has been completed.

Coming down heavily on DMK's candidate in the Chennai Central constituency and former communication minister Dayanidhi Maran, Jayalalithaa, also the AIADMK supremo, accused him of laying the foundation of the 2G spectrum scam.

According to her, it was Maran who said the finance ministry should not interfere in the pricing of telecom spectrum at a Cabinet meeting.

She charged the central government lost several crore of revenue due to the setting up, at Maran's residence, of 323 telephone lines - used by Sun TV group free of cost.

Jayalalithaa also urged the people to vote out the corrupt United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by the Congress at the centre.
