New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday asked a Shia Muslim group and the owner of a nursery in south Delhi to sit together to resolve their land dispute amicably and maintain "civility".
As the atmosphere remain tense at the Jor Bagh area in south Delhi over the anticipated protest at a Karbala site, the high court asked the Anjuman-e-Haideri - the trust responsible for the upkeep of the site - and the nursery owner to sit together and resolve their dispute.
Justice Manmohan told both parties to come to an agreement and till then police will remain there. Currently around 300 armed police personnel are deployed in the area.
The court said: "Arbitrator is seized of the matter. No one can sell it. I don't know what people are thinking. Please talk to each other so that an agreement can come. Otherwise it may go beyond your hand and a third party will take advantage of it."
Additional Solicitor General Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Delhi Police, informed the court that a deputy commissioner of police was seriously injured in the clash March 31 and NH24 was jammed for six hours by the protesters.
In the past few years, there have been repeated disputes between the two groups over the plot of land where currently two nurseries -- Rajdhani Nursery and Evergreen Nursery -- are functioning. The court March 31 had restrained Anjuman-e-Haideri from holding protest at the Karbala.
The Anjuman-e-Haideri has contended the land on which the nurseries are functioning is part of the Karbala land and disputes the possession by the owners of the nurseries. The subject matter of the disputed claims between the parties have been referred to arbitration.
The court now posted the matter for further hearing on April 22.
