Guwahati, March 29 (IANS) Night curfew was imposed at some areas in Assam's Chirang district after tension gripped the areas following murder of a girl by unknown assailants, police said Saturday.

Located over 250 km away from Assam's main town Guwahati, Chirang district falls under the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) of Assam and borders Bhutan.

The incident took place at Aamguri area along the Indo-Bhutan border Friday when some people abducted two girls, who went for fishing in the area. One of the girls, however, managed to escape later, police said.

"Tension started in the area after the body of one girl was recovered from the nearby jungle Saturday morning," a police officer said adding that initially the locals alleged it to be a rape and murder case.

"It is a planned murder case. The doctors have, however, ruled out rape angle. We have detained 14 people for their involvement in the crime and the girl, who managed to escape, have so far identified four of the them," said Inspector General of Police, BTAD, L.R. Bishnoi.

"We have imposed night curfew in areas under Bijni and Aamguri police stations to defuse the tension," he added.
