Kolkata, March 27 (IANS) A volunteer from West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district has bagged an international award for her contribution to child welfare over the past 15 years in the state, an NGO said Thursday.

Pampa Sinha, a volunteer with Children International - a global humanitarian organization focused on child welfare - was honoured with the Inspire Award by the organisation's president Jim Cook here recently.

Sinha, who is from Boral, South 24 Parganas district, began volunteering with the NGO while her daughter was in the sponsorship programme, said a release by SAHAY, an affiliated NGO.

"She has been involved in activities like cooking for the nutrition feeding programme, assisting with gift distribution, informing youth of important events and working with other mothers in the community to make sure they are making the most of the opportunities available," the release said.

Although her daughter has graduated from the sponsorship programme, Sinha continues to volunteer.

Sinha drew inspiration from her father who was a rickshaw-puller but worked for the welfare of many.
