Proteas fined for maintaining slow over-rate during World T20 clash against Kiwis

Johannesburg, Wed, 26 Mar 2014 ANI

Johannesburg, Mar 26 (ANI): South Africa has reportedly been slammed with a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate during their ICC World Twenty20 Group 1 encounter against New Zealand in Chittagong on Monday.

In accordance with the regulations of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel governing minor over-rate offences, players are fined ten percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

According to Sport24, former Indian cricketer and current ICC elite match referee Javagal Srinath fined the team after it was ruled to be two overs short of their target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

The report mentioned that captain Faf du Plessis was fined 40 percent of his match fee, while his players received 20 percent fines.

If Du Plessis is found guilty of one more minor over-rate offence in T20Is over the next 12 months, he will receive a one-match suspension as per the provisions of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, the report added. (ANI)
