Court warns police in IPL spot-fixing case

New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) A court here Wednesday warned Delhi Police that it would impose costs on it and adjourn the IPL spot-fixing case "sine die" if police continue delaying proceedings in the case.

Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar was irked over the delay in completion of the scrutiny of documents filed by police along with the charge sheets in the case.

The court posted the matter for May 16, saying if any application is received after the next date of hearing from defence counsel regarding incomplete documents, it will impose costs and adjourn the case sine die.

Public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan assured the court that police will complete the procedure of submitting documents by the next date of hearing.

Delhi Police have charge sheeted suspended cricketers S. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and others and said underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel, who have been "controlling the fixing and betting market" in cricket in India, were behind the IPL spot-fixing case.

The scandal was busted with the arrest of the three cricketers along with bookies from Mumbai in May 2013. They are at present out on bail.
