Gajapati (Odisha), Mar.20 (ANI): Following tip offs from rebels under police custody, the police in Gajapati district of Odisha destroyed a Maoist camp and seized a huge cache of arms, ammunitions and explosives.
The police initiated a raid in Maoist hideouts in the forests of Salimagochha and Therubadi in Gajapati district after receiving primary information from three female Maoists under custody, Nikita, Anita and Susan who were arrested from a camp on February 28.
On Wednesday, police seized three rifles, a tiffin bomb, two magazines and more than 160 rounds of live cartridges.
"During further interrogation of the three arrested Maoists, it was disclosed that a dump of ammunition is there in Salimagochha and Therubadi. So we send out our team, and the team was accompanied by police from Kandhmal and Ganjam. The whole team was able to retrieve and seize one SLR (Self Loading Rifle), one 303, SBML (Smooth Bore Muzzle Loading) gun, used ammunitions, tiffin bombs and tiffin carriers," said Superintendent of Police of Gajapati, C. S. Meena.
Police also retrieved a collection of tiffin boxes used for hiding explosives, clothes and mobile phone chargers during the raid.
Recently, security forces also seized arms and ammunitions during the raids on Maoist hideouts in southern district of the province, mostly in Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati. (ANI)
