London, March 18 (ANI): A 500 years old rare antique Chinese cup is expected to earn a record 24 million pounds at auction.

Sources have predicted that the Chenghua 'Chicken cups' will fetch approximately 24 million pounds when it is sold at auction in Hong Kong next month, the Daily Express reported.

Nicolas Chow, Deputy Chairman of Sotheby's Asia and International Head of Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art said that the exclusive item has been praised and treasured by emperors and connoisseurs alike, ever since they were produced during the Ming dynasty.

According to experts, the antique cups were produced in small numbers and only a handful of museums worldwide have the cups in their collection and just four are left in the hands of private owners around the world.

The cups, which were first created between 1465 and 1487 during the Chenghua reign, were originally sold for $3.7million at auction in 1999, breaking a world record for the most expensive piece of Chinese art. (ANI)
