London, Tue, 18 Mar 2014 ANI

London, Mar. 18 (ANI): Liverpool captain Stevan Gerrard has reportedly warned the club's owners to extend boss Brendan Rodgers' contract to ward off interest from other big clubs of Europe.

The skipper has reportedly called on the Anfield hierarchy to act 'now' to keep Rodgers as the club manager for a long time lest other big clubs start showing interest in him.

According to the Mirror, Gerrard said that he is absolutely delighted that Rodgers is with Liverpool and hopes that the owners get the manager signed up as soon as possible, as Rodgers has just 12 months left on his current deal.

Gerrard further added that he feels that the current Liverpool boss deserves a 'very long contract' with at Anfield as he is 'perfect' for the club.

Gerrard has urged his club to treat Rodgers as a priceless asset as with almost an year left on Rodgers' contract, the interest of clubs like Manchester City and Barcelona are speculated to have been aroused.

However, there have been no signs so far from principle owner John Henry over contract talks and Rodgers himself has said that he would prefer to wait for a new contract in order to avoid any distractions to Liverpool's Premier League title challenge, the report added. (ANI)
