Patna, March 8 (ANI): Women in different parts of India mark the spirit of International Women's Day and come out of their houses to participate in marathon and walkathon.

In a bid to aware people on equal rights for women, ladies in Patna on Saturday ran for empowerment. More than 1000 women participated in 'Run for Women Empowerment' marathon.

A participant, Laxmi Rai, said the initiative was part of a drive aimed at changing the mindset of people in treating women.

"We have come here as we want women to be empowered in the country and to aware people regarding it. Women should also be given due respect in the country. We also want to prove that we have the strength to do anything," said Rai.

The event was first-of-its-kind in Bihar, informed oragnisers.

Meanwhile, a walkathon was organised in Thiruvananthapuram, during which women wore similar t-shirts and walked for unity.

"This is very inspiring and I want to say that this is an event only for women and it is like a gathering for all of us. This also makes us realise that if women come together, they can do anything and general elections are also coming, so I expect that confident and powerful women should win and we will come together to make it happen," said a participant, Ponamma Babu.
