Maoists victimise family of deceased police informer

Gaya, Tue, 25 Feb 2014 ANI

Gaya, (Bihar), Feb. 25 (ANI): Maoists have victimised the family of a dead police informer in the "red corridor" of Gaya, by burning the latter's houses and farmlands, leaving them in distress and with no means of livelihood.

Lamenting the government's apathy, the family said the authorities had failed to provide them any compensation or help for their survival.

The Maoists attacked the house of Vijay Yadav after branding him a police informer in March 2011.

"They came and sprayed oil and burned down the whole place. We kept saying that he doesn't live here they said still we don't burn down the place he will not understand. We pleaded a lot, but they did not listen at all," said Meena Devi as she recalled the incident.

After the incident, the family fled from the village.

"They took all the jewellery that I had saved for my daughter's wedding and earlier they had already snatched away the motorcycle," said Devi.

The red rebels also banned the family from carrying on farming in the village, which was their only means of earning.

In August last year, Maoists found Yadav and gunned him down in broad daylight and since then the family members have been running from pillar to post for justice. (ANI)
