Soon, check-in hotel's room with tap on your smartphone

Washington, Wed, 29 Jan 2014 ANI

Washington, Jan. 29 (ANI): With the world getting smarter with digital products, a hotel chain has reportedly decided to bring in 'digital keys' to their guests' phones via an app instead of the traditional plastic swipe cards.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts, which owns more than 1,150 hotels in nearly 100 countries, plans to debut the digital key system in the next three months at two of its Aloft hotels in the New York City and Cupertino.

A spokeswoman for the hotel chain said that the app would initially be compatible with recent iPhone models and newer Android phones and use Bluetooth technology to unlock the room with a tap, CNN reports.

Starwood's CEO Frits van Paasschen believes that the digital key system for hotels would become the new standard for how people will want to enter a hotel and eventually become table stakes for managing a hotel. (ANI)
