Security vigilant as Rajasthan gears up for Dec.1 polls

Jaipur, Nov.30 (ANI): Assembly elections will take place across Rajasthan on Sunday.

In all, voting will take place in over 47,200 polling stations to elect a new Assembly. The campaign for 199 out of 200 Assembly seats ended on Friday evening.

Polling in Churu constituency will take place on December 13 due to the death of the BSP candidate.

Prominent candidates in the fray are Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Leader of opposition Vasundhara Raje, Chairperson of National Women's Commission Mamta Sharma, Kirori Lal Meena and Athlete Krishna Poonia.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the polls and Rajasthan's borders with neighbouring states have been sealed.

In all, 10793 polling stations, most of them in the eastern part of the state, have been identified as critical.

Over 119000 security personnel have been deployed across the state including police, RAC and 509 companies of central paramilitary forces.

The ruling Congress and the opposition BJP are contesting in all seats, while the BSP is contesting in 195 and the CPM on 38 seats.

A total of 666 candidates of other parties and 758 independent candidates are also in the fray.

In all, 2087 candidates 167 women candidates are contesting the election. (ANI)
