Hong Kong's chief executive should adhere to central govt. policies

Beijing, Sat, 23 Nov 2013 ANI

Beijing, Nov. 23 (ANI): Hong Kong has said that its next chief executive (CE) should adhere to central government policies and should also love the city to maintain its relationship with Beijing.

Deputy Secretary-General of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and chairman of its Basic Law Committee Li Fei said that anyone who confronts the central government can't be Hong Kong's CE as it would seriously harm the stability and prosperity that the city has enjoyed from past several years, the China Daily reports.

Li's remarks on Hong Kong's political reform came ahead of the chief executive and legislative elections due in 2017 and 2020.

According to the report, it is stated in Article 43 of the Basic Law that Hong Kong's CE shall be accountable to the Central People's Government and the HKSAR in accordance with the provisions of this law.

Li also urged the local community to ensure that the nominations were made in accordance with democratic procedures to reflect the "collective will" of all committee members. (ANI)
