Bangalore Police gives three-day deadline to banks to intensify security at ATMs

Bangalore, Nov.21 (ANI): Police on Thursday ordered the banking companies here to intensify security measures at their ATM vestibules after the CCTV footage of a woman bank officer being robbed and attacked with a machete in an unguarded ATM kiosk on Tuesday morning.

Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said that it had been made mandatory for the banks to install CCTV cameras, burglar alarms and keep a guard inside their respective ATM booths.

"Under Section 144, prohibitory orders have been issued that before or within November 24 by 4 pm, all the banks should adhere to this order that inside and outside the ATMs they should install CCTV cameras. They should appoint a security guard and also they should install burglar alarms," he told media here today.

However, he refused to divulge any details regarding the ongoing search for the accused.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, a 38-year-old officer with Corporation Bank was attacked with a machete inside an unguarded ATM kiosk, which was captured by a CCTV camera.

The accused, who is still at large, snatched a bag from the victim, leaving behind the unconscious woman in a pool of blood.

The victim was being treated at a hospital in Bangalore. Her condition is said to be stable but is suffering from a paralytic attack on the right side of the body. (ANI)
