The Indian award-winning actress and activist Shabana Azmi will be the guest of honour at the 13th River to River Florence Indian Film Festival, Italy’s only festival to be focussed entirely on Indian cinema, due to take place in Florence (Cinema Odeon, Piazza Strozzi 1) from 22nd to 28th November.
The calendar includes 40 films, with national, European and world premieres, 20 international guests, 4 special events and 1 tribute. The festival consists of three sections (feature films, documentaries and short films), special events, meetings and side events. Lots of meetings will be held with guest actors and directors.
The films will deal with such topics as ‘women’s rights, ‘habits, customs and traditions in India’, the new animation movies, and ‘lights and shadows of Bollywood’. The “best of” and the winning films of the 2013 Festival will be screened at Nuovo Cinema Aquila in Rome, from Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December, and at Spazio Oberdan in Milan, in February 2014.
Created and directed by Selvaggia Velo and part of the 50 Giorni di Cinema Internazionale a Firenze, with the Patronage of the Indian Embassy to Italy and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, the River to River Festival goes on in its journey of discovery through Indian cinema, to tell the thousand faces of a reality that is distant from and often unknown to Italy and Europe, through the films of famous directors and young up-and-coming talents.
