Traditional buffalo fight enthrall spectators in Shimla

Shimla, Nov.11 (ANI): The traditional buffalo fight fair enthralled hundreds of villagers in Baychari village in Shimla District over the weekend.

People said the fair is held to preserve old traditions and religious beliefs. It is also held to honour Hindu gods and local deities.

Sunil Shandil, one of the organisers of the fair, said: "People come together to keep the old traditions alive so that we continue these traditional practices. The aim of this fair is to maintain brotherhood among people. The fair is arranged every year during this time only."

The fair is organised every year during the month of October or November by the youth organisation of the village and is attended by people from across the state.

Member of Parliament from Shimla, Virender Kashyap said: "The animals are brought from different places of Himachal Pradesh to fight and entertain people. I think that these traditions should continue and the government should also encourage the organisers of the fair for continuing the same."

People from nearby villages, Tutu, Hiranagar, Shangti and Mashobra were present at the fair and were entertained to see the buffaloes fighting.

This event was also organised to promote tourism in the region.

Tourists from India and abroad, visit the state to see this rich culture and also find it educative and entertaining experience. (ANI)
