Tutu to attend Bangalore's global health meet

Bangalore, Nov 9 (IANS) Former South African archbishop and Nobel Laureate Desmond Tutu will be among those participating in a three-day international health conference here from Nov 13.

"Tutu will be one of the eminent speakers at the conference on 'Health Futures - Overcoming the Epidemic of long-term Diseases' and will participate in a panel discussion on healthcare systems the world over," an organising official told IANS Saturday.

Besides Tutu, 82, panel discussion speakers will be Prince Charles via video-conferencing and experts like Dean Ornish, Sir John Oldham, Jonathon Porritt, Kerryn Phelps and Ranjit Roy Chaudhury.

"The conference will also deliberate on integrative medicine, including allopathic system, as a mainstream treatment option in future, preventive medicine to reduce economic burden and healthcare spending and the need for research and development to prove the efficacy of integrative medicine," the official said.

Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj will inaugurate the conference and address the gathering.
