Unnao (Himachal Pradesh), Oct.29 (ANI): The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) stopped digging for gold and other hidden treasure at the fort of Raja Rao Ram Bux Singh in Unnao, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday.
ASI officials told media and television channels like Times Now, that excavations have confirmed that there was no gold at the fort.
They,however, confirmed the discovery of some pottery pieces from the Buddhist era at the excavation site.
The excavation had begun on October 18 after a seer, Shobhan Sarkar, claimed that 1,000 tonnes of gold was buried under the ruins of the 19th century fort.
Local villagers and followers of the hermit said that they completely believed his prediction about the hidden gold, but expressed disappointed at the slow pace of work.
The hermit had reportedly written to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) suggesting that this treasure could be used to help the country recover from its economic slowdown.
The ASI had sent a team of archaeologists to the village of Daundia Khera in Uttar Pradesh to dig two 100-square-metre blocks by the side the palace fort. (ANI)
