Long power cuts cripple Agra

Uttar Pradesh,Business/Economy, Wed, 09 Oct 2013 IANS

Agra, Oct 9 (IANS) The residents of Taj city Agra are facing problems due to severe power outages of six to eight hours every day.

This has been happening since Sep 15 due to the installation of a transformer at the Peeli Pokhar sub-station. The work would continue till Oct 20.

Private provider Torrent Power in Agra said it was helpless in the matter.

"We are trying our best to ensure minimum inconvenience to our customers," a Torrent official said.

The city's hotels are the worst sufferers as they have to keep their diesel generators on for long hours, raising the air and noise pollution levels.

The industries have also complained to the state government and have demanded alternative arrangements for power supplies.
