In Thailand, the government provides clean water from Bangkhen plant in the suburbs of its capital Bangkok.

The plant has been using Ebara pumps from Japan for over 3 decades.

Wutichai Pituklerdkul, a senior engineer with Ebara Thailand, said: "The Ebara pump is very powerful, and reliable in the supply of water to the city."

The reliability of water pumps supplied by Ebara has created a unique relationship with the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority in Thailand.

Kazuo Yamagishi, Secretary General, Ebara Hatakeyama Memorial Fund, "Such countries need infrastructures because they have not enough pumping systems, pumping technologies and water treatment technologies. But Ebara is the biggest pump manufacturer in Japan and we have 100 years of experience, so we have a lot of know-how."

Ebara recently organized a seminar in Bangkok that attracted representatives from South-East Asian countries to update them about its latest technologies in water purification.

Voravate Chonlasin, Head Public Sector Capacity Building Unit, AIT Extension, said: "The course that they study in this training program is very applicable and practical to them, because the Ebara case study that they use in these sessions is for solutions in the field, so that people, when they go back to their organizations, they can use that experience to solve problems in the field."

Some 44 participants from 6 countries including India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Philippines participated in the seminar co-organised with the Asian Institute of Technology.

Each of these countries is facing challenges in water purification.

Apathma Gunawardana, a seminarist from Sri Lanka, said: "Our group is 15... 15 persons from Sri Lanka. So that presentation and this program are very helpful..."
