The 27th Surajkund international craft mela is set to begin from February 01, 2013 at it's scheduled time that happens every year at Surajkund, Faridabad, Haryana amid tight security.
This is the first time Surajkund craft mela has been recognized as International craft fair as last year, erstwhile Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay had announced to make Surajkund craft fair as International craft fair.
This eminent arts & culture and handicraft fair will though begin from Friday at 9:30 a.m. but its official inauguration will be held by President of India Pranab Mukherjee on 02nd February 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
According to official report, Vijay Vardhan, Principal Secretary Tourism, Haryana, "Due to some reason, President was not available for that day, so we requested him to do inauguration on the 02nd Feb 2013 as Surajkund craft fair has now become an international affair, so it would be would be appropriate that he should inaugurate it."
"It will also the matter of pride for Harayanaites," he added.
The President will inaugurate this craft fair in the presence of Jagannnath Pahadia, the Governor of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister of Haryana, Anand Singh, Minister of Tourism of the Theme State Karnataka and many other dignitaries.
The Surajkund Crafts Mela is India's one of the most significant craft mela that held every year 8 k.m. far from South Delhi's Badarpur at Surajkund place in district Faridabad, Haryana. Every year, most of the Indian states and some foreign states including African and Eurasian countries participate in this grand fair.
This fair was first time hosted in 1987 to showcase the richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and the cultural heritage of India. Every year it is jointly hosted by the Union Minister of Tourism, Textiles, Culture, External Affairs, Department of Tourism, Govt of Haryana, and Haryana Tourism Corporation etc..
This year too, 20 countries are participating in this international handicraft and cultural fair including South Asian countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghnistan and Bangladesh, and African countries like Rwanda, Guinea, Tunisia, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Adis Ababa and Cango.
Eurasian countries like Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are also participating in this fair.
Sri Lanka is the biggest partner among these in the 27th edition of Surajkund international craft fair.
Entry time for this fair is 9:30 a.m. daily and it will conclude on till 7:30 p.m. for the general public. But, on the 02nd Feb, it will open for the common public at 1:00 due to VVIPs entry for inauguration.
Tight security arrangement has been made to avoid any untoward incident. Special cell of women constable and senior police personals have been made for security of the women, said Shatrujeet Kapoor, Commissioner of Police, Faridabad.
For security reason, this year, the helicopter tour for tourists will not be available, said Vijay Vardhan.
"As this year we have enhanced the area of food court, so vultures, kites and pigeons and crows fly in the sky for eating remainings, which could be a cause of accident, so viewing the security, this year, we have scrapped this facility," he said.
For the convenience of visitors, the premise area has been expanded this by 2.5 acre and sitting arrangements have also been extended, informed Anand M Saran, Director General Tourism, Haryana while addressing to media.
The use of plastic is banned and eco-friendly bags will be made available in the fair, he said.
