Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna meets the children, who have been conferred the 'National Bravery Award 2012' at a function held at Raj Niwas today. Twenty-two children have been selected for the Awards, one of the award will be given posthumously to Ramdinthara of Mizoram, who died while trying to rescue his friend from drowning. Congratulating these brave children for their courageous acts, the Lt. Governor said that this is a caveat achievement as they have not only saved the precious live of others by showing exemplary courage and strength but also performed their duty towards humanity.
In his blessings, he wished them success in life and prayed for their good health and a bright future, so that they can harness their positive energy in improving society and inspire more and more people to do selfless service and country at large. He also paid his tribute to the parents of the children who laid down their lives for saving others.
The most-coveted Bharat Award has been conferred on 17-year-old Master Tarang Atulbhai Mistry of Gujarat who saved four people from drowning in the Narmada River.
Prestigious 'Geeta Chopra Award' has been conferred to eighteen year old Km. Renu of Delhi for exposing the perpetrators of inhuman treatment of a children's home.
The Sanjay Chopra Award has been given to 11-and-a-half-year-old Master Gajendra Ram of Chhattisgarh who saved a child from drowning in a well.
The children will participate in the Republic Day parade, riding caparisoned elephants. The scheme of National Awards for Bravery was started by Indian Council for Child Welfare to give due recognition who distinguish themselves by performing outstanding deeds of bravery and meritorious service and to inspire other children to emulate their example.
