Murray overcomes nerves to lead Britain back among Davis Cup elite

London, Mon, 16 Sep 2013 ANI

London, Sept 16 (ANI): Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray has admitted he suffered nerves before beating Croatia's Ivan Dodig to secure his team's return to the World Group in the Davis Cup tournament.

According to the Mirror, Andy Murray was hailed as 'amazing' after leading Great Britain back into the Davis Cup big time in hostile Croatia.

The Wimbledon champion immediately pledged to play every match in the World Cup Group next year, the report said.

Murray, who also won the doubles with Colin Fleming, is now unbeaten in 16 consecutive Davis Cup singles matches since losing on his debut eight years ago, the report added.

Dan Evans then wrapped up the 4-1 win on the clay of Umag by also beating Mate Pavic in straight sets, the report further said.

Murray said that he had dealt with enough pressure around Wimbledon time and knew how to get through these sort of matches, adding that it got pretty hostile towards the end, and it was good to go through in that kind of atmosphere, which wasn't the case in Grand Slam matches.

Britain will face another of the world's top 16 nations in the first round of the World Group in February while the draw takes place on Wednesday, according to the report. (ANI)
