Six convicts get life term in Bangalore gang-rape case

Bangalore, Sep 6 (ANI): A Bangalore Court on Friday sentenced six men to serve life terms on charges of raping a law student in October last year.

The Criminal Injuries Board has been issued directions by the court to pay compensation to the victim.

The eight men allegedly raped the student of the National Law School of India in a forest adjacent to Bangalore University's Jnanabharathi campus.

Seven of the eight men were arrested by the police within a week of the incident. The eighth accused is still missing.

One of the accused, who was found to be a juvenile, is being tried under the Juvenile Justice Act

The 21-year-old girl was out with a male friend late at night, when these men, who were allegedly drunk, attacked them.

This untoward incident raised questions over the safety and security of women in the city, which is well known as the hub of India's Information Technology (IT) sector.(ANI)
