Election Commission to use VVPAT system at bye-election in Nagaland

New Delhi, Aug. 17 (ANI): The Election Commission of India has decided to use the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail system (VVPAT) system at the current bye-election from 51-Noksen (ST) assembly constituency of Nagaland.

The Government of India, vide their notification, dated 14th August, 2013, has amended the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, enabling the Election Commission to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail system (VVPAT) with the Electronic Voting Machines.

The poll for this bye-election is to be held on September 4, 2013. Instructions are being issued to hold special meetings with the contesting candidates in this constituency to brief them about the use of VVPAT system.

The Election Commission is organizing special training sessions for poll officers in the use of VVPAT and steps are being taken to educate the electors on the use of VVPAT system. (ANI)
