World's first solar-powered 'family car' unveiled in Netherlands

London, August 8 (ANI): A team of Dutch engineers have built the first ever solar powered 'family car' that has the potential to travel twice as far as your typical electric car.

The car, which has been named Stella, has large solar panels on its roof and can travel up to 420 miles, the Daily Express reported.

The car, which can hold four passengers, can even travel around 250 miles without the sunshine.

Team Manager, Lex Hoefsloot, at Eindhoven University of Technology, said that his team strongly believes that the car of the future is much lighter, aerodynamic and efficient.

Hoefsloot asserted that solar panels are the solution for a sustainable future, and they can increase the range of your car.

He added that the solar cells on the roof of the car cost only 2,581 pounds.

Stella is also the world's first 'energy positive' car, which means that it produces more energy then it uses.

Made from lightweight materials, such as carbon fibre, the car weighs a mere 380kg, which is 1,120kg lighter than the average electric car. (ANI)
