Centre awaits report on suspended IAS officer

New Delhi,Politics, Wed, 31 Jul 2013 IANS

New Delhi, July 31 (IANS) The central government Wednesday said it was waiting for a report from the Uttar Pradesh government over IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal's suspension.

Minister of state for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V. Narayanasamy said he would Thursday meet representatives of the Uttar Pradesh IAS Officers Association who had objected to the action taken by the state government against Nagpal.

"The report from state government has not been received so far. But the IAS Officers Association of Uttar Pradesh said they wanted to meet me. I will meet them tomorrow and hear their version," said Narayanasamy.

"After hearing the views of the state government and the association, we will consider it on merit," he said.

Nagpal, sub-divisional magistrate of Noida, was suspended Sunday by the state government for allegedly illegally ordering demolition of a wall of an under- construction mosque.

While suspending Nagpal, the state government accused her of acting hastily and triggering a possible communal flash point. She has now been attached to the revenue board.

Narayanasamy however said the central government will not interfere in law and order decision of the state.

"We are not going into the domain of law and order... we are mainly concerned with the service rules. If there is violation of service rule by the state government we will intervene," he said.
