Congress using CBI for its nefarious political gains, alleges CPI

New Delhi, July 20 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Saturday lashed out at the UPA Government over reports that Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav may be given a clean chit in an eight year old disproportionate assets case, and said that the ruling Congress Party is always using the CBI for its nefarious political gains.

"The Congress is always using the CBI for its own nefarious political gains and in that process with that understanding the Congress is using the SP (Samajwadi Party) and BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) both and it has forced both parties to support their government at the Centre," said CPI leader Atul Kumar Anjan.

Meanwhile, Rae Bareli advocate Vishvanath Chaturvedi, who is the petitioner in the disproportionate assets case said on Saturday that he would highlight all the incidents along with the evidences before the court.

"I have been blackmailed for the last 10 years. Let the closure report come I will present all the incidents along with the evidences before the court," he said.

In November 2005, Chaturvedi filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the assets of Mulayam Singh Yadav, sons Akhilesh and Prateek, and daughter-in-law Dimple.

He alleged the family had acquired properties in Lucknow, Etawah, etc, worth over Rs 100 crore, which were disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The Samajwadi Party had earlier opposed the Food Bill, saying it was anti-farmer.

The Congress, which needs the Samajwadi Party's support for other crucial bills in Parliament like Pensions and Insurance Bill as well, could help Mulayam Singh Yadav in corruption cases against him.

The biggest challenge for Mulayam at the moment is to get clean chit in disproportionate assets case. The Samajwadi Party supremo's review petition against an Election Commission order is pending in the Supreme Court. (ANI)
