371 unauthorised Delhi colonies get roads, drains courtesy DSIIDC

New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) The Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has built over 800 km of roads and 1,500 km of drains in 371 unauthorised colonies as part of its drive to improve basic infrastructure in various settlements across the national capital, an official said Sunday.

DSIIDC, the Delhi government's premier infrastructure development agency, was tasked with carrying out developmental works in 634 unauthorised colonies spread over 21 assembly constituencies.

"The task in 371 colonies has been completed," a senior DSIIDC official said, adding that Rs.1,334 crore were spent to improve basic infrastructure in the colonies.

The official also said that projects worth Rs.278 crore were currently under implementation in 97 more colonies and these will be completed by the end of the current fiscal.

The Shriram Institute for Industrial Research has been entrusted the task of ensuring quality in the projects being implemented by the DSIIDC, said the official.

DSIIDC has been executing development works in unauthorized colonies in various parts of Delhi for more than a decade. This is being done on behalf of Delhi government in order to provide essential services in such colonies.

The assembly constituencies where most of the works haved either been completed or are in progress include Badarpur, Rithala, Timarpur, Narela, Uttam Nagar, Janakpuri, Palam, Vikaspuri, Bawana, Badli, Chandni Chowk, Burari, Rajouri Garden, Mustafabad, Gokulpur, Kirari, Bijwasan, Matiala and Karawal Nagar.
