Lucknow, June 26 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday announced compensation for kin of the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel killed in helicopter crash during rescue operations in Uttarakhand.
Yadav, who expressed grief on the untimely tragic death of the young brave officers, announced a sum of Rs. 20 lakh to kin of the personnel.
"Two officers identified as Sudharkar Yadav and Akhilesh Pratap died in the helicopter crash during the rescue operations and we have decided to give their kin Rs. 20 lakh as compensation money from the state government," he said.
Yadav also announced a donation by a local religious leader of Rs. one crore for victims affected in the flash floods and incessant rains leading to washing away of houses, buildings, roads and stranded pilgrims in the swelling current of river Ganges.
"In this time of grief and difficult circumstances in Uttarakhand where one needs great and timely help, Kripaluji Maharaj (A religious leader) has offered to help the victims of flood hit Uttarakhand by donating a sum of Rs. one crore," he said.
At least 20 people were killed as the IAF Mi-17 crashed north of Gaurikund while returning from a rescue mission from Guptkashi and Kedarnath.
The IAF had started inducting Mi-17 V5 choppers only last year after ordering 80 of them from Russia.
This is the second incident of a helicopter crash this week in the hill state.
A private helicopter carrying relief materials for the rain-affected people in Rudraprayag district had crashed on Sunday near Gaurikund leaving the pilot injured. (ANI)
