Railways plan to evacuate people stranded in Uttarakhand

New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) The Northern Railway has deployed senior officers at Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar to help coordinate evacuation of people stranded in flood-hit Uttarakhand, a statement here said Thursday.

These officers will co-ordinate with the state authorities and ensure management and dispersal of passengers by trains, running of special trains and also ensure setting up of passenger help booths at these locations round the clock, said the statement.

The officers are:

Dehradun - Sanjeev Garg, chief commercial manager/freight marketing, Mobile:09717630953;

Rishikesh - D. K. Singh, chief commercial manager/project, Mobile:097171630969;

Haridwar - Hitendra Malhotra, additional divisional railway manager/Moradabad, Mobile:09760534001; and

New Delhi - Vivek Srivastava, additional divisional railway manager, Mobile:09717631001

The statement said the railways have also deployed Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers, doctors and paramedical staff in sufficient numbers at these stations.

Four special trains are being sent to Haridwar/Dehradun to be utilized for evacuation of stranded people between Haridwar/Dehradun and Ambala, Delhi and Lucknow, it said.
