Haryana announces Rs.10-crore help for Uttarakhand

Chandigarh, June 19 (IANS) The Haryana government Wednesday announced a Rs.10-crore assistance to calamity-hit Uttarakhand.

"Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced to give Rs.10 crore to Uttarakhand to help the state as a rescue and relief operation has been launched there following floods triggered by heavy rain," a state government spokesman said here.

Over 100 people were killed and nearly 70,000 tourists, mostly visiting religious shrines in Uttarakhand, were stranded at various places due to massive landslides and flash floods in rivers following heavy rain and cloudbursts.

In Haryana, the Yamuna river was flowing over the danger mark and has entered villages in Yamunanagar and Karnal district in the last four days. However, no loss of life or property has been reported.
