New Delhi, June 13 (ANI): Russian envoy Alexander M. Kadakin on Thursday said that his embassy was awaiting for reports from the Indian authorities over the issue surrounding the arrest of three Russians on charges of duping scores of persons through a pyramid scheme.
Kadakin said Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM) had a chequered past and its mastermind Sergei Mavrodi had also served a prison term in Russia for duping thousands of investors in the early 1990s.
Kadakin suspected that this current group could be attached to a similar scheme.
"That gang was also active, if it is same gang I don't know first of all, but that gang was also active in Russia and the chief of the gang was in prison for many years. But so, far as regard to the embassy, we shall be protecting the interest of Russian citizens but not of MMM gang and if the accusations have been made on them, but in the first information report (FIR) there is no mention of their names, there is no mention of Russians. Let us wait and see," said Kadakin.
The trio has been identified as Alexei Muratov, Danis Roskov and Andre Kilyn.
They were nabbed by the police in Guwahati on May 29 and were later shifted to Mumbai.
The scheme, advertised through the Internet has attracted thousands of investors, promising to multiply their investments. (ANI)
