Guwahati, June 9 (ANI): The Centre has decided to start Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) to focus on equity based development, improvement in teaching-learning quality and research.
Union Human Resource Development Minister Dr. M M Pallam Raju said this while interacting to media and academics at IIT, Guwahati yesterday.
Dr. Raju said that RUSA will provide funds to public Universities and Colleges so that higher educational institutes do not rely heavily on the affiliation fees.
The Minister further said, with the implementation of the scheme, the Universities can give more emphasize on life-skill development activities which would ultimately help in employment generation.
Dr. Raju also said that the Centre has set the target of achieving 30 percent gross enrollment in higher education by 2020 from the current 18 point 8 percent. Expressing concern on the shortage of teachers in North-East, Dr. Raju said that his Ministry is taking steps to address the issue. (ANI)
