Lahore, June 5 (ANI): The Lahore police is offering a new service to the citizens - it will retrieve people's missing money in exchange for a 50 percent commission on the amount.

The latest police antics seem to have contributed towards a rise in kidnapping for ransom, vehicle snatching, land grabbing, fake police reports and intimidation of ordinary citizens, in a bid to mint money out of them, reports the Daily Times.

Complaints against policemen are on the rise with FIRs registered against a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and nine constables at various police stations across the city.

In addition to that, over 300 complaints have been submitted against policemen at various city stations. However, senior officers appear keen to cover-up these complaints, the report said.

It was revealed that on February 28, two Sub Inspectors at Iqbal Town police station, Safdar Gondal and Arif, kidnapped Ishaq, a resident of Iqbal Town. He was tortured for a whole day and was asked to pay back one million rupees to one Mahnoor. He signed the cheque and was released from the police station only after the withdrawal of money.

Similarly, on March 9, CIA Model Town's Inspector Bashir Niazi, Assistant Sub-inspector Jafar Watto along with two lady constables and seven constables raided a beauty saloon of Canal Park Butt Plaza and kidnapped a woman named Naila Javed.

They tortured her and brought her to police station CIA Model Town and on reaching there, they presented her to DSP CIA Model Town Daud Khan and he asked her to call her husband and ask him bring three million rupees cheque in the name of Naveed Dialke, otherwise she would be raped by police. Her husband paid the amount and she was released.

The victim couple filed a case against the accused police officials but no concrete action has been taken so far.

According to sources, police officials have been using their authority to mint money from citizens. They have also been threatening the victims with bogus cases if they dared to approach higher authorities for seeking justice, the report said. (ANI)
