PML-N govt. will risk enraging Pak Army if it holds Musharraf's trial: Analyst

Lahore, Wed, 29 May 2013 ANI

Lahore, May 29 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government will run the risk of enraging Pakistan's powerful military establishment if it goes ahead with Pervez Musharraf's trial, a senior political analyst has said.

Analyst Raza Rumi also said that the PML-N would lose the moral high ground it has maintained for a decade, if it refrains from holding the trial, reports The Express Tribune.

According to media reports, the PML-N government has decided to hold the trial of the former president over charges of treason.

The report quoted PML-N parliamentarian Tariq Azeem as saying that Musharraf should face the music for violating the Constitution.

Azeem added that prime minister-elect Nawaz Sharif has made it clear that he has no personal issue with Musharraf but he should be tried for breaking the law and violating the Constitution.

The former military dictator has been detained in his farmhouse in Islamabad since April 19 on charges of conspiracy to murder former premier Benazir Bhutto, sacking of judges when he imposed emergency rule in 2007, and the 2006 death of Akbar Bugti. (ANI)
