Amritsar , Thu, 23 May 2013 ANI

Amritsar, May 23 (ANI): Italy's Ambassador to India Daniele Mancini has described his recent visit to Amritsar, and particularly to the Golden Temple, as a unique experience, and added that a place of spirituality in India affects people of any religion or belief.

Ambassador Mancini, who was accompanied by his family, visited Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, on the invitation of Giani Gurbachan Singh, the Jathedar of the Akal Takht.

Recalling his meeting with Sikh religious leaders, Ambassador Mancini said he was honoured to visit and meet them, adding that Sikhs residing in Italy, are one of the most relevant communities in his country.

In his letter to India's Ambassador to Italy, Basant Kumar Gupta, Ambassador Mancini made a special mention of Sukhdev Singh Kang, the President of the Sikh community in Northern Italy, who facilitated arrangements for his visit to Amritsar.

Kang later told ANI over phone that his objective was to familiarise Ambassador Mancini with Sikh culture and customs.

Currently, about 70,000 Sikhs live in Italy and contribute to that country's prosperity. Italy has the second biggest Sikh population in Europe after the United Kingdom. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)
