Kolkata, May 22 (IANS) Various facets of India in the last 50 years have been brought to life through a bouquet of photographs by international photographers at an exhibition here, the organisers said Wednesday.
Organised by Magnum Photos, an international photographic co-operative forum, the 11-day event titled "Magnum Ke Tasveer" displays an oeuvre of 56 vibrant pictures by eight noted lens masters, set across the country. The event is running till May 28.
"The important feature of this exhibition is that the photographers have a long-time association with the country. These photographers are role models for hundreds across the world," Purbani Das of Seagull Foundation for the Arts, the venue of the exhibit, told IANS.
The exhibition also showcases acclaimed Indian photographer Raghu Rai's works.
Amongst the selection included are works of artists like Abbas, Bruno Barbey, Ferdinando Scianna, Marilyn Silverstone, Olivia Arthur, Steve McCurry, Werner Bischof and Raghu Rai, who have lived and worked in India for extended periods of time.
The collection includes, Swiss photographer Werner Bischof's vision of Kolkata (then Calcutta) in the 1950s, British artist Olivia Arthur's depiction of tribals in Chhattisgarh and Iranian photographer Abbas's images on pilgrimage and meditation.
