New Delhi, May 13 (ANI): The Delhi Cabinet on Monday decided to hike the monthly remuneration of teachers deployed by language academies in government schools.

It also approved retention of government accommodation by re-employed teachers getting pension.

The decisions were taken at a Cabinet Meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Briefing media persons about the meeting, Dikshit stated that the city government had deployed Urdu, Punjabi and Sanskrit teachers from language academies in schools managed by the Directorate of Education as part of the Language Development Program.

She said the teachers were initially engaged on a part time basis against vacant sanctioned posts, and in 2008, were given permanent jobs.

Their consolidated monthly remuneration was increased in July 2002, April 2005 and April 2007 during their part-time assignment.

The Government in July 2008, further hiked their emoluments consequent upon making them full-time language teachers against vacant sanctioned posts on consolidated monthly remuneration.

The new remuneration for PGT was fixed at ' 13,160/- and for TGT ' 11,140/-.

The Cabinet has now decided to hike consolidated remuneration with immediate effect to ' 23,265/- and 22,935/- with immediate effect.

The monthly consolidated monthly remuneration of 282 teachers would go up more than double. The decision would provide relief to such teachers.

The Chief Minister also stated that the Cabinet has decided to allow the retention of government accommodation to all the retired re-employed teachers upto PGT level and Vice-principals and Principals till they are re-employed.

Dikshit stated that the basis of the decision is that these teachers are being re-employed automatically for two years after their superannuation from government service and they cannot be treated as on contract basis.

It is expected that the decision would mitigate their problems. (ANI)
