Sydney, May 12 (ANI): Veteran Manchester United player Paul Scholes has announced for a second time that he would be retiring, days after long-time manager Sir Alex Ferguson said that he would be standing down at the end of the season.

The former England international had first quit in 2011 to take up a position on United's coaching staff but returned to first team action in January last year, News.com.au reports.

Scholes, who is expected to make his final appearance in Sunday's Premier League match against Swansea at Old Trafford, which would also be Ferguson's swansong, confirmed that he would be finally hanging up his boots for good.

The midfielder further said that he is honoured to have a long and successful career at United and that too under the greatest manager of all times, adding that playing football is all he had ever wanted to do.

Praising Scholes, the also retiring Ferguson said that Scholes is an unbelievable player, adding that he will collect a well-deserved 11th Premier League medal during his final game against Swansea at Old Trafford.

Scholes, an one-club man, was one of the Scot's favourites players, and will be making his 498th Premier League appearance for United on Sunday and the 716th of his career with the Old Trafford club, the report added. (ANI)
