Fergie to receive 2-mln package as Man U ambassador after retirement

London, Fri, 10 May 2013 ANI

London, May 10 (ANI): Soon-to-retire Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will reportedly be paid a whopping two million pounds to be an ambassador for the club after his retirement.

The Scot moves into the role of director and ambassador at the end of this season after finishing his 26-and-a-half-year reign at Old Trafford, although he cannot assume his new duties until he has fully recovered from his hip operation this summer, The Sun reports.

The report further said that Ferguson has been dangled the bumper pay-package carrot to make sure his standing and experience is not lost.

Although Ferguson would be staying in England instead of traveling to Australia and the Middle East for pre-season tours, the report mentioned that he would be used to attract major sponsors and also advise on club matters.

According to the report, Ferguson had been due to take the same job in 2002 when he originally planned to retire, adding that however, tensions erupted between Ferguson and the club management over his wages for the job, with the club wanting to pay him only 150,000 pounds.

Ferguson will not have an office at Carrington or Old Trafford as he wants to take a step back from team affairs and not be around the players, insisting that new boss David Moyes will get free rein, although he added that he will be around for guidance if asked. (ANI)
