STORY: Alleging that there is no rule of law in India's northern Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) demanded dismissal of the provincial government and imposition of President's (federal) rule in the state.
Federal lawmaker and chief of BSP, Mayawati stated this at Lucknow, the provincial capital on Tuesday (April 16).
She urged Governor Banwari Lal Joshi to recommend President's rule in the state.
"The Governor of the state (Uttar Pradesh) should carry out his constitutional responsibility by sending a correct report to the federal government, recommending President's (federal) rule in the state," said Mayawati.
Incidentally, BSP is the main opposition in Uttar Pradesh legislature over the past one year, after having lost to Samajwadi Party (SP) in the last provincial polls.
"There is jungle rule (anarchy) in the state instead of rule of law at every level," added Mayawati.
Meanwhile, the SP contended that Mayawati was frustrated ever since she lost power.
Spokesperson of SP, Ram Asrey Kushwaha said this while interacting with media persons in the industrial city of Kanpur in the state.
"She has been upset ever since the formation of the Samajwadi Party government. People had voted her out. She expressed her frustration and anguish in her PC (press conference)," said Kushwaha.
Both parties are based in India's largest state of Uttar Pradesh. Last year, the SP unseated the BSP government in the state.
