New York , Sat, 06 Apr 2013 ANI

New York, Apr 6 (ANI): American professional basketball player Jeremy Lin has revealed in an interview that he was not drafted by any National Basketball Association (NBA) club or get a major college scholarship because of his ethnicity.

According to the Houston Rockets guard, even though he led his high school team in Palo Alto, California, to a state championship, he did not offered a scholarships at a major US college like Stanford or UCLA because he is an Asian, the New York Daily News reports.

According to Lin, although ethnicity has no bearing on athletic skill, outdated perceptions about race still exist, adding that had he been black or white, he would have gotten a scholarship to his Stanford, his dream school.

Lin, who signed a three-year deal with the Houston Rockets in the offseason, said that instead, he had gone to Harvard, where no athletic scholarships are granted.

The interview explores Lin's meteoric rise to fame after he came off the Knicks bench last spring as a relative unknown and created the phenomenon known as "Linsanity" with his remarkable play, the report added. (ANI)
