Guwahati, Apr 3 (ANI): Asserting that Maoists were trying to establish their stronghold in Assam, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that the state government would take steps to prevent them from increasing their influence.
"Maoists (are) trying their best to establish their stronghold in Assam also. They are trying their best and we are aware of it. Definitely, we will take appropriate steps so that Maoists couldn't extend their influence," Gogoi told media here.
Maoists have also significantly increased their presence in tribal and rural regions in Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.
However, the government has termed them to be India's main internal security threat and an obstacle to growth in Asia's third-largest economy. (ANI)
