Exiled Putin foe Russian tycoon found mysteriously dead in UK home

London, Sun, 24 Mar 2013 ANI

London, Mar. 24 (ANI): The British house of deceased Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky was searched by chemical, biological and nuclear police experts to know the cause of death.

The specialist officers were sent to the 67-year-old exile's property in Mill Lane, Ascot, Berkshire as a 'precaution'.

The house of Berezovsky has also been cordoned off following the 'unexplained' death of the tycoon.

According to the Mirror, Thames valley Police in a statement said that specially trained officers were at the scene, including CBRN trained officers, who were conducting a number of searches as a precaution.

The statement added that the search was being conducted to enable officers to carry out an investigation into the man's death, whose body was still in the property.

Berezovsky was found dead in his bath by a bodyguard on Saturday morning.

He was a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and he had survived several assassination attempts, including a bomb that decapitated his chauffeur.

His death is bound to spark new conspiracy theories, and Thames Valley Police said they were treating it as 'unexplained'.

Berezovsky was a close friend of Alexander Litvinenko, the Russian dissident fatally poisoned in London in 2006.

He was due to make a witness statement at the ongoing inquest into Litvinenko's death. It was not known whether he had made the deadline of Friday.

Berezovsky, in his last Facebook message, called Putin "a greedy tyrant and usurper who trampled on freedom and stopped the development of Russia".

The exiled oligarch was wanted in his homeland on suspicion of fraud. But Russian TV claimed that he wrote to Putin two months ago to ask him to forgive him and allow him to return home, the report added. (ANI)
